He was born in Washington, D.C. to Vernie and John Chapman. He graduated from Gwynn Park Senior High School in 1956 and shortly thereafter joined the Navy and was stationed in Cuba. Upon his return, he joined Western Electric which later became AT&T as an accountant. After retiring from AT&T, he joined the team at Bunker Hill Tavern where he worked for 33 years bringing laughter and friendship to all.
Johnnie is preceded in death by his parents, brother Gene Chapman, sister Betty Burch, nephew Curtis Burch and is survived by his sister Barbara Riley, brother-in-law Charles Riley as well as several nieces and nephews; Cheryl Burch, Clifford Burch, Leonard Riley, Clayton Burch, Deborah Gray, Douglas Riley, Jimmy Riley, Todd Riley and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Johnnie was an incredibly compassionate, giving and caring man. He sought to make the world better than he found it, always extended a helping hand and looked for the best in people. He had a great sense of humor and often brought family and friends to their knees with laughter. He will be greatly missed. The world is a better place because Johnnie was in it!
A visitation for Johnnie will be held Wednesday, September 27, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Huntt Funeral Home, 3035 Old Washington Rd, Waldorf, Maryland 20601. Funeral Service, Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Huntt Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Trinity Memorial Gardens, 3221 Mattawomen Beantown Road, Wednesday, September 27, 2023
