Donald Pennington

Donald Eugene Pennington, 83, of Northwood, Ohio passed away January 13, 2015 after a 4 year illness. He was born in Toledo, Ohio on February 04, 1931 to James V. Pennington and Reba (Murry) Pennington. Don graduated from Woodard High School in 1949. After high school he joined the Army. Upon his discharge from the Army he tried his skill at many different jobs including short order cook, taxi cab driver, and was a supervisor at Tillotson. He finally found his passion in helping people as a State Farm Insurance Agent, a highly successful career that lasted for 39 years. He married Marilyn Smith on November 22, 1952. Don qualified for many conventions with State Farm giving he and Marilyn the opportunity to travel the world. Don and Marilyn also enjoyed traveling to Florida every year so Don could golf in the winter. Don never refused a game of golf! Donald and Marilyn were happily married for 56 years when Marilyn preceded Donald in death on May 1, 2009. He will always be remembered as being a kind and generous man, humorous and full of laughter, never judging anyone, and always ready to help anyone out. We will miss him dearly!

Don leaves behind his children, Pamela Schlicher (Marc Quiroz), Karen (Chris) Smeltzer, Cheryl (Jeremy) Dunbar, and Robert (Barb) Pennington, his grandchildren, Luie (Randi) Garcia, Danny Garcia, Kyla Williams, Michelle Pennington, Hilary (Nate) Hinz, Nathan Dunbar, Tricia & Briana Smeltzer, his great grandchildren, Vincent, Leah, Antoino, Anthony, Jayvion, Saneiyah, Ma’ky, Charlie, and one on the way.

Friends may call at the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home 701 N. Main St. Walbridge, Ohio (419-666-3121) Friday January 16, 2015 from 2-8pm. where funeral service will be conducted at 11am Saturday January 17, 2015. Interment will follow at Allen Township Cemetery. Memorial may be directed to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
