With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Rufina Andres Abut, who peacefully transitioned into the heavens on the morning of July 1st, 2024. She was 87 years old. Rufina was born on February 28, 1937 in Binalonan, Pangasinan, Philippines.
In 1957, Rufina immigrated to Hawai`i on the island of Moloka`i where she lived with her late husband Fernandico Abut. Rufina was a devout Catholic since childhood and it carried on through her life in Hawaii where she taught religious education on the friendly isle. In 1983, Rufina moved to the island of Mau`i where she worked at The Maui Marriott Hotel until her retirement. She spent her Sundays servicing the lord as a Eucharistic Minister at Maria Lanakila Catholic Church in Lahaina at various masses while connecting with her friends in Christ.
After retirement, she enjoyed traveling across most of Europe on religious pilgrimage tours collecting artifacts and sharing them with family and friends. During her spare time, she loved baking and gardening and sharing the fruits of her labor with everyone, acts of service was truly her love language.
Rufina is survived by her siblings, Emiliano Andres, Florentino Andres Sr., Aida Tambo, Victor Carnate, Venancio Carnate, Teresita Jacang, Renato Carnate, Laurita Ursua and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Fernandico Abut and sisters, Lolita Nava and Leonora Carnate.
Memorial Service will be held at Sacred Hearts Mission Church in Kapalua, Maui, Hawai`i. Visitation begins at 9:00AM, followed by Mass Service at 11:00AM. Burial Service will follow and will be held at Maui Memorial Park Cemetery - Main at 2:00PM.
