Jeanette T. Vares, lovingly known as "Granny," passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on April 12, 2025, at Hospice Maui Hale. Born on April 3, 1935, in Pu'unene, she was the daughter of John "Johnny" Moniz Tavares and Helen Pruse Tavares. Jeanette retired from Kula Hospital, where she worked as a seamstress.
She lived life to the fullest, cherishing time spent with family and enjoying conversations with loved ones over the phone. Jeanette had a passion for traveling to different countries and loved playing keno in Las Vegas. As a devoted Catholic, her strong faith was a central part of her life. Jeanette is survived by her sons, Alan (Crystal) Vares and Carl (Renee) Vares, as well as her eight grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her son, Brian Vares and her brother, Herbert Tavares.
Services will be held at Holy Ghost Church in Kula on Saturday, May 3, 2025. Visitation will take place from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by church services. A private burial will be conducted at a later date. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the paramedics, fire personnel, doctors, nurses, and staff at Maui Memorial Medical Center and Hospice Maui Hale for their compassionate care.
