Born August 26th, 1935 in Hamilton Texas, Roy grew up in Waco Texas. Seven years later, a baby sister, Sandra Sue came along and Roy was a good big brother. As a teenager, Roy had a dream of joining the military, preferably the Army! However, circumstances intervened and he chose Air Force life instead. In the 23 years he served, he attained the rank of MSgt. while also going to college for his BA in Business Administration. After retiring from the Air Force in 1976, Roy did a brief stint with the Defense Department in California.
Being a Texas Native Son, the call to move back to Texas was too strong. Making his home base in Waco with his wife Pearl Alice Manus, a GS-12 job opened in Houston for the Real Estate Section Supervisor, he traveled between Houston and Waco until a similar HUD job opened in Fort Worth. After 28 years of marriage to Pearl, Roy became a caregiver to her as she succumbed to a terminal illness in December 1990. Roy remained a widower until 2001 when Maxine Cabal swept him off his feet. They were married until 2010 ,where Roy , once again ,became a caregiver to her as she too succumbed to a terminal illness in 2010.
During the subsequent years, Roy shared time and travels with his sons Michael, Gary and Ronnie Roy. Roy was a member of Beacon Hill Baptist Church of Waco.
Roy’s parents, Juleus and Mary Ola Schrader, sister, Sandra Sue Bailey, sons Gary Wayne and Ronnie Roy are deceased. Roy is survived by son, Michael Duane and Family, nephew, Troy Bailey and Family, and nieces Rhonda and Renee and Families. Roy was blessed with 2 granddaughters, 6 great grand children and 1 great great granddaughter with a great great grandson on the way in August.
A graveside service for Roy will be held at Waco Memorial Park, Friday June 21, 2024 at 10am in the Military Section with special Flag ceremonies by the US Air Force Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, Roy requests that any donations be made to any charity of your choice that truly honors and cares for disabled military veterans .
Roy was quick with a smile, a joke, a hug and a dance. He loved life and wanted all to love it also.
