Richard Jackson, 89, of Waco, passed away Thursday, February 12, 2015 in a local hospital. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors with the Reverend Brad Brittain officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until service time on Tuesday, February 17th.
Mr. Jackson was born on October 2, 1925 in Groesbeck to George and Mollie (Adams) Jackson. He joined the United States Navy, Sea Bee in 1943 and served 3 years in the Pacific. Mr. Jackson married Geraldine “Gerry” Jackson in 1947 and they celebrated over 67 wonderful years together. He worked for General Tire for 35 years. Richard and his son, Ric operated Richard Jackson’s Photographers for 52 years, a professional wedding and commercial photography; a camera in hand was many happy hours and memories of joy. He was one of the selected few who, along with Kenneth Mears and John Fowler started Genco Federal Credit Union. In 1970 he opened Jack’s Pawn Shop, after being in the pawn shop business, he continued working in the heater business dealing and working on Dearborn heaters. Mr. Jackson was a 60 year member of Fidelis Masonic Lodge # 1127. He was a member of Saint John’s United Methodist Church then Central United Methodist Church and was very active in both church and Sunday school.
Survivors include his wife; Gerry Jackson of Waco, son; Richard Lynn Jackson and his wife, Rosa of Waco, granddaughter; Jami Lyn Jackson; his pride and joy of Waco, sisters; Myrtie Hoeft of Waco and Syble Bridger and her husband, Darwin of San Antonio, many nieces and nephews and dear friends of the Galilean classes.
