Nelda Marie McCoy, age 86, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 in Waco, Texas. Graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at Oakwood Cemetery with Reverend Stuart Huey officiating. Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 22, 2024 at Connally/Compton Funeral Home.
Nelda was born on July 23, 1937 to John Douglas and Bertie Lou (Cundiff) Snelson in Hillsboro, Texas. She was the youngest of their four children, having one brother, Eddie (Wayne), and two sisters, Emma (Louise), and Virginia (Loree). Nelda attended school in Hillsboro where she met the love of her life, Jimmy Don McCoy. They were married on July 27, 1956 in Hillsboro, Texas. The newlyweds moved to Waco to begin their life together and eventually raise their son, Kyle, and daughter, Karen. Nelda held several jobs before beginning work in the office for ophthalmologist, Dr. James Patton and later, for Dr. Scott Smith. Nelda was the one who made the family house a home by being a caring wife and mother, including always having a full meal on the table for her family at dinner time even though she worked outside the home. After more than thirty years of service to the eye doctors, Nelda finally retired to enjoy more time with her grandsons. She spent her days watching her soap operas, listening to old country music, and watching the Dallas Cowboys anytime they were playing. Nelda was proud to be a breast cancer survivor of 44 years.
Nelda is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her siblings.
Those who remain to cherish her memory are her son, Kyle McCoy and wife Cynthia, her daughter, Karen Ayala, her grandsons, Cory McCoy, Colton McCoy, and Brady Ayala and wife Regan, great-grandsons, Myles Ayala and Ashton Ayala, many nieces and nephews, and other extended family members.
