Visitation will be from 3-5pm on Sunday, May 3 at Connally-Compton Funeral Directors. The funeral service will be at 2pm on Monday, May 5 at Connally-Compton with Curtis Grisham officiating. Interment will follow at Rosemound Cemetery with David Ross officiating.
Mary’s family moved to Waco when she was 6 weeks old. She graduated from Waco High School in 1945, from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1949 and a Master’s Degree in 1950. She married Lt. Curtis H. Ross at Highland Baptist Church in Waco on June 17, 1950. Curtis’s job in the military carried them to many states including California, Washington State, Alaska, Georgia, Texas, and New Jersey so all four of her children were born in different states. Following Curtis’s retirement their family returned to Waco where Mary taught high school chemistry, biology and mathematics at Connally High School, China Springs High School, Riesil High school and Marlin High School until she retired in 1993.
Mary was a member of the Waco Senior Kiwanis Club, a past member of the Waco Garden Club, Waco Orchid Society and Herb Society, a member of United Commercial Travelers of America, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and past member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. Mary was a member of Park Lake Drive Baptist Church. She was an environmentalist at heart and passionate about recycling, conservation and preserving the earth since the 1950’s. She was a loving wife, devoted mother and beloved grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband Major (Ret.) Curtis Harold Ross, her parents, Omer R. Jones and Mary Helen Faulkner Jones and her beloved sister Omer Beryl “Bee” Jones.
Mary is survived by her daughter Linda Ann and husband Charles Grisham; son William David Ross and wife Cynthia Broughton; daughter Lucy Elaine Ross; son John Michael Ross and wife Jennifer; grandchildren Drew Grisham, Curtis Grisham and wife Candice, Nathaniel Ross, Valerie Ross, Christopher Ross and wife Katie, Mariya Ross, Darya Ross, Zach Caldwell and wife Shelby, Ben Caldwell and Hannah Caldwell; and four great grandchildren Michaela, Austin, Abby and Bonnie.
