Mary F. Finney, 87, of Missouri City, formerly of Woodway and Waco, passed on from this world into our Lord’s Hands after a long, fruitful, fulfilling, successful and enjoyable life on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 in Sugar Land, Texas. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 28, 2010 at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors Chapel with Msgr. Mark Deering officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Family will receive friends 11:00 am to 1:00 p.m., Thursday, October 28, 2010 at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors.
Mary was born (a twin with Marie White Willis) May 27, 1923 in Waco, Texas to James and Josephine (Moteleone) White, and were the 6th and 7th of 11 children born to them. She grew up in Waco and attended Waco High. On February 15, 1942, she married Harold DeBord Finney of Casey, Illinois, and they were married 57 wonderful years until his passing in 2000. During her life, Mary Frances accomplished many things. She traveled with her sister-in-law, Mildred White, to Seattle during World War II to work on B47 airplanes at the Boeing Aircraft plant. After the war, she held many jobs; initially as a telephone operator at multiple companies in Waco including Southwestern Bell and Pioneer Savings & Loan. She became office manager for multiple Doctors’ offices, managed real estate complexes, evolved into a 15 year career as a successful real estate agent, and opened an antique shop, which she dearly loved. Throughout her life, she participated in many organizations including: Ridgewood Country Club, Lake Waco Country Club, a Sorority (Beta Sigma Phi, President), Waco Garden Club (President), and multiple organizations with Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Waco. Upon moving to Atlanta, GA in the mid 1990s, she made many friends through AARP and local bridge clubs. She then moved to Missouri City (Houston), TX in 1998 and made many more friends through Clubs such as “Fort Bend Friends & Neighbors”, “Loving Friends” (a widow’s organization) and “The Quails” at Quail Valley Country Club (another bridge club).
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; and loving husband, Harold DeBord Finney.
Those left behind to cherish Mary’s memory are her son, Harold W. Finney of Atlanta, Georgia; twin sister, Marie Willis, of Freeport, sisters, Conjetta Brown of Houston, Annie Jean Whelan of Wichita Falls; brother, Chris White of Lubbock; sister-in-law, Jean Elliott of Dallas; numerous beloved nieces and nephews as well as her husband’s family in Illinois.
We will miss her dearly, as she was beloved by all, relatives and friends alike. Pass, Mary Frances, into the hands of your beloved Lord. God Speed.
