Ellen Marie (Moore) Farrar passed away peacefully on April 10, 2013, at Ridgecrest Retirement Center in Waco at the age of 93. Her funeral will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Connally Compton Funeral Home in Waco. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
Marie was born on August 31, 1919, in Enloe, Texas, to William P. and Edith Moore. She moved to Waco at an early age and graduated from Waco High School in 1937. She married Junius Farrar on March 22, 1939, and shared her life and family with him until his death in 1985.
Marie was a proud member of the Odell Dudley Class at First United Methodist Church for over 70 years and was very active in the church for as long as she was able. She was also active in Meals on Wheels and other charities. She and Junius were avid Square Dancers and were founding members of Allemande Hall and the Waco Square and Round Dance Association. In addition to raising two sons and a daughter, Marie worked for many years in the restaurant industry at George’s Surf & Sirloin and at the Black Angus.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Junius, her sister Eloise Thomas, and grandsons Keith and Michael Fletcher. She is survived by her sons Randy Farrar and wife Sophie of Corpus Christi, Danny Farrar and wife Seawillow of Waco, daughter Kaye Fletcher and husband Danny of Waco, sister-in-law Dorene (Farrar) Wolfe of Taylor, eight grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.
Marie’s grandsons, Bret, Ken, Eric, Patrick, Kevin and Corey Farrar will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Odell Dudley Class, First United Methodist Church, Waco.
