James Hunter(Jim) Thompson passed September 8, 2023 in Shreveport, Louisiana surrounded by family after a short illness and hospice stay. Jim was 86 years old, born in Houston, Texas October 6, 1936 to James Byron and Dorothy Hunter Thompson.
There will be a graveside service in Waco, Texas at the Compton Funeral Home Circle in the Oakwood Cemetery on Friday September 15, 2023 at 1:00 pm.
Jim attended Lamar High School in Houston and the University of Texas in Austin graduating in 1959. It was in Austin he met Martha Harston, of Waco, Texas, and they were married in August 1958. After graduation in 1959 they moved to Houston and in 1978 moved to Shreveport. Jim worked in manufacturing in Houston and Shreveport, retiring from Alloy Piping Products.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Martha, two sons, Jay and spouse Janet and Rick and spouse Susan, daughter, Michelle and sister, Barbara Thompson Willis. Jim had 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
Jim was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma at the University of Texas, Holland Lodge No. 1, A.F. & A.M. in Houston, and Sons of the American Revolution serving as president of his local chapter. Jim was a member of Broadmoor Presbyterian Church in Shreveport.
The family would like to thank the staff of The Carpenter House hospice in Shreveport for their loving care they gave Jim.
