Emmylou graduated from Waco High School in 1953. She met Bill in high school and after an water well electrocution, they knew their love for one another. She married Bill Montgomery on July 1, 1954 and have been married for 67 years. From a daughter’s perspective, they have partnered and shared experiences and supported the goals and hopes of each other their entire lifetime.
Emmylou completed her Bachelor of Science Degree in 1971 at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, LA. She taught 6th grade at Immaculate Conception School; became an entrepreneur owning American Handicrafts Store and a fabric/sewing store in Lake Charles, LA.
Bill had an opportunity with St. Joseph Hospital in 1979, so Bill and Emmy moved to Houston, TX and Emmy worked in in the medical field administration for Compass Micromation and a private psychiatric hospital.
Bill and Emmy raised a son, David and daughter, Donna to be independent leaders and pointed them to Jesus Christ for a personal relationship with Our Savior.
Upon retirement, Bill and Emmylou moved to Waco, TX. She was an avid Baylor Bears sports fan and enjoyed football and basketball, both men’s and women’s.
Emmylou enjoyed her five grandchildren whether putting sand in their eyes for sleep, visiting the Dr. Pepper Museum or teaching summer camp at MiMi and Pop’s house over the summer, she always enjoyed spending time with them. Each summer for many years, Mom and Dad shared family vacations at the beach in Gulf Shores, AL. We played games every night until very early morning. She liked Dominos, Stock Market game, and Easy Money.
Emmylou is a member of First Woodway Baptist Church. She enjoyed good timers ministry and maintained a prayer life, journaling requests and results for years. She was a member of the Porcelain Arts Guild where she served in leadership roles and enjoyed painting and firing china décor.
