.Edgar C. Melzer, age 83, passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 28, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church Pastor Paul Krupicka officiating and burial to follow in the Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, November 27th at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors.
Edgar was born on February 11, 1928 to Chris and Emma (Mandalek) Melzer in Follett, Texas. He was a longtime resident of Woodway and a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church. Edgar served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He married Jean Hartman on March 14, 1953 in Seattle, Washington. Edgar retired from the United States Department of Agriculture, in which he worked as a food inspector for 32 years. He enjoyed playing cards, dominoes every Tuesday at church where he had many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Chris and Emma Melzer; brother, Steve Melzer and step brother-in-law, Larry Pierson.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 58 year, Jean Melzer of Waco; daughters, Tawny Hawkins and husband, Gaylon of Axtell and Laura Duncan and husband, Bruce of Hewitt; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; sisters, Josephine Schneider 0f Spearman, Delphine Kopke of Spearman, Marylyn Rutz of Perryton and Carolea Weiss of Amarillo; numerous nieces and nephews.
