Mr. Dewey Hardin Rogers, 91, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, May 5, 2017 in Waco. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, May. 9, at 10 a.m. at Rosemound Cemetery in Waco with Reverend James Adams and Reverend James Berger officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, May 8, at the funeral home.
Dewey was born February 7, 1926 in Sheridan, Arkansas in a log cabin. The youngest of 8 upon coming to Texas, he met and married Dolly Mae Long, who passed away in 1965. In 1972 he married Helen Gaskamp. He loved to crochet. He crocheted many afghans for family and friends. Dewey did many lap robes for nursing homes in the Waco area.
He retired from Owen Illinois after 34 years, in 1984. Dewey was preceded in death by his first wife, Dolly, infant son, Dwaine, son, Dan and all his siblings.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories, his loving wife of 44 years, Helen Rogers of Waco; son, Don Rogers of Tyler, daughter, Denise Bennett of New Orleans, LA, stepson, Paul Gaskamp and wife, Linda of Tennessee, stepdaughter, Linda Souders and husband, Dennis of Leroy, and Kathy Downey and husband, Jack of San Angelo; 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; numerous nieces and nephews.
