Danny Owen Carpenter, 61, of The Grove, and longtime resident of Waco, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2016 in Waco, after a long battle with cancer. Funeral service will be 2 PM, Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors with James Carpenter and Patrick Pricer officiating. Interment will follow in Waco Memorial Park. Viewing will be from 8 AM to 5 PM, on Friday, March 4, and 8 AM until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Mr. Carpenter was born on March 13, 1954 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Jim and Bobbie (Thompson) Carpenter. He graduated from Midway High School in 1972 and married Diane Kilgore on March 17, 1973 and they celebrated over 42 wonderful years together. He loved the Lord and was a faithful member of the Spring Valley Road Church of Christ. Mr. Carpenter worked for Central Freight for over 20 years and later retired from Conway Freight after 18 years of service. He owned and operated Mounted in McGregor Taxidermy service in McGregor and Have Dogs Will Travel, a quail guide hunting service for 15 years.
His parents and his son, Aaron Carpenter preceded him in death.
Danny was an avid outdoorsman, and greatly enjoyed a full life of hunting and fishing with so many good friends and family, too numerous to name. He was talented and skilled with the art of taxidermy, starting out as a hobby, and then a business for over 20 years which he loved, and took great pride in. He was also known as "Doc" by many of his hunting clients he guided on quail hunts, and was recognized as quite the dog whisperer having many years of successful training of a wide variety of hunting dogs. Danny was former president of both The American Bird Hunters Association and The Waco Bird Hunters Association. He won many titles with his dogs over the years in The American Bird Hunter Field Trials. Besides so many family, and great friends, he will also be truly missed by his many canine "best friends".
Survivors include his wife, Diane Carpenter of The Grove; daughters, Amber Arnold and her husband, Bob, of Waco, and Sarah Carpenter of The Woodlands; sisters, Deanne Wilson and her husband, Leon, of Waco, and Becky Ramsey and her husband, Tom, of China Springs; brother, James Carpenter and his wife, Jamie, of China Springs; grandchildren, Lilyanne Arnold, Asa Arnold, Brody Arnold, and Landon Menard, and several, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
