Columbus Jackson, 88, of Waco passed away on April 1, 2017. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00a.m., Monday, April 3, at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors. Burial will follow in Riesel Cemetery. Visitations will be from 2 to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, April 2, at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors.
Columbus was born in Groesbeck, Texas to Charlie and Myrtle Mae (Ragland) Jackson. He attended schools in and around Ben Hur until 1943 at which time he started his working career. His job history included Jones Fine Bread Bakery, Montgomery Ward and 5 years at Baylor. In 1951, he enlisted in the U.S. Army as a field wireman and in 1953 he was honorably discharged. From 1953 to 1956, he held various jobs. In the early part of 1957, he started his barber career at Kuehl’s Barbershop at Westview Village until 1973 at which time he purchased the shop and Jackson’s Barbershop was born. Columbus worked in the same shop, same chair for 56 years. He worked many other part-time jobs as well. Outside of working, he loved dancing at Sul Ross Dance Club and going to Blue Grass Festivals.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty, 5 brothers and 1 sister.
Survivors include his sons, Dayne and wife Janis and Phillip and wife Pat; daughter, Kathy and husband David; 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Stoney Brook, Wesley Woods, Sodalis and Scott and White Hospice for their care of Columbus.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
