William “Mike” Michael Robinson, 71, of Lexington, South Carolina, was born in Lancaster, South Carolina, on March 28, 1952, and went to be with our Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 12, 2023, surrounded by family. A devout Christian, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Mike will be remembered for his love of Christ, family, and friends.
He loved his family and truly enjoyed spending time with them, giving advice and knowledge he had gained from the Bible. He evangelized to so many people and always said that Jesus was the most important thing. His strong faith impacted many people throughout his life.
He was a graduate of Aiken High School, class of 1970. He obtained a Bachelor of Science-Business Management from the University of Phoenix and a Master of Business Management from Colorado Technical University.
Mike loved his country and proudly served as a personnel management specialist in the United States Army from August 1972 to May 1974. He retired from the Savannah River Site in 2013 after 31 years, ending his career as a Procurement Manager. He had a beautiful smile and a keen sense of style, something that stood out when he was on the dance floor. He was known in the shag community (the South Carolina state dance), as “fancy feet” and “silver fox” and had a passion for teaching younger generations how to dance. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports, played golf as much as he could, and was a die-hard Carolina Gamecock fan. Orange was an obsolete color in the Robinson household.
He loved his days in North Myrtle Beach, dancing and having fun with friends. He held many offices with Palmetto Shag Club and Columbia Shag Club. He was inducted into the South Carolina Shagger’s Hall of Fame in November 2005, National Living Legends of Dance in 2007, and Living Legends of Ocean Drive in 2022. He won the Pug Wallace Intergalactic Award in 2018 and was elected as an SOS Shag Icon in 2010.
Mike was predeceased by his parents, William Floyd Robinson and Catherine Horton Robinson.
He is survived by his wife Patricia Redd Robinson; his daughter, Cherity Robinson (Jerry); his son, William “Robbie” Robinson; and his stepdaughter, Shannon Parsons (Kent). Mike had seven grandchildren, Cara Price (Ashley), Caitlyn Robinson, Dalton Robinson, Sterling Parsons, Campbell Parsons, Graham Parsons, and Jennings Parsons; and three great-grandchildren, Cheyenne Price, Callie Price, and Jace Price. He is also survived by his sisters, Elaine “Kricket” Arbaugh (Don), Sharon “Shay” Jewel (Gary), Wanda “Jo” Burckhalter (Rick), and Cindy “Sissy” Brewer (Robert); along with several nieces and nephews. Also, many special, life-long friends.
