Mrs. Ruth Duggan Sossamon

WEST COLUMBIA – Ruth “Mousie” D. Sossamon, 79, passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2011. Mrs. Sossamon was the wife of the late Joseph “Joe” Sossamon, was born on April 15, 1932 in Farner, Tennessee. She was the daughter of the late Claude and Georgia Magness Duggan and the daughter-in-law of the late Harvey and Fannie Sossamon. She is the beloved mother of two sons, Joe Barry Sossamon of West Columbia and Larry Mark Sossamon of Pelion.

Mrs. Sossamon is survived by her son, Joe Sossamon; grandson, Joseph Sossamon; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Sheila Sossamon; granddaughter, Brittany Sossamon; grandson, Brent (Daralyn) Sossamon; step granddaughter, Madeline Simons; granddaughter, Breanna Sossamon; step grandson, Luke Meetz; former daughter-in-law, Sharon Bergeron; brother, Fred (Phyllis) Duggan; sister, Diana (John) Elliott; sister, Vickie Duggan and many nieces and nephews. She is also leaving behind her buddy “Tank”, a pet boxer. She was predeceased by her sister, Mildred Goodrum and brothers, Robert Duggan and Charles “Buster” Duggan.

She retired from S.C. National Bank and Pilot Club of Columbia and she was a long time member of Cayce United Methodist Church and the Friendship Sunday School Class.

Mousie was so fondly known by her family and friends she was a loving wife, sister, Mother and Grandmother. She was kind, caring and never met a stranger and these qualities yielded her many friends. Yes, she shall be greatly missed by her family, many friends and all whose lives she touched during the 79 years that God granted her on this earth; but there is a consolation in knowing that life does not end with death for a Christian because the gift of God is eternal life and she has just gone to receive her reward at her new Heavenly home with a new heavenly body. On Sunday, May 29, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. a celebration of her life will be held at the Cayce United Methodist Church. She will be laid to rest beside her husband, Joe, at Southland Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Brent Sossamon, Todd Stillwell, Jonathan Sossamon, Roy Elrod, Robert Berry and Kristian Gilleland. Honorary pallbearers will be her Friendship Sunday School Class. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, May 28, 2011 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, West Columbia Chapel in Southland Memorial Gardens.
