Robert was born September 12, 1940 in Great Falls to the late Julian Shull and Adell (Jacobs) Goings as the youngest of 6 children. They preceded him in death; Gladys (Wallce), Julian Jr., Daisy (Wilson), Mary (Dennis), and Florence (Surber).
Robert graduated from Great Falls High School and Palmer College. Robert retired from Vulcan Materials after working 40 years in the aggregate business in the state of South Carolina. He was a proud lifetime member of Masonic Pacific Lodge 325 as well as Shriner’s Jamil Temple. He was a member and elder of Batesburg-Leesville Presbyterian Church. Robert loved his Carolina Gamecocks and Gilbert Indians. He coached Dixie Youth Baseball at Midlands and Gaston.
He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Joan (Dobson); daughter, Christina (Dawkins) and her husband, Steve, whom he loved like a son. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Scott.
Robert had five grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; Stephen (Helen), parents to Olivia, Robert, River and Palmer; Special Love Brandon, Michael, Elizabeth (Joe Campo) parents to Samuel, Avery and Sullivan; and Matthew (Jessica).
Robert loved his family, his friends, and his community and they all respected and loved him. He will be greatly missed.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday July 21, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Batesburg-Leesville Presbyterian Church, 103 Mitchell Street, Batesburg-Leesville, SC.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to his grandson Brandon’s Special Olympics Team Special Olympics for Life Adult Team 381 Boy Scout Road Gaston, SC 29053
