Raymond “Ray” DeFoix Efird, 92, was born August 25, 1930 in Columbia, SC and passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2023. He was the son of the late Raymond Edward and Sarah Keisler Efird. Mr. Efird was a US Navy veteran in the Korean War and owner of Lithoprint, Inc. Ray was a charter member of Holland Avenue Baptist Church and Trinity Baptist Church and currently a member of Riverland Hills Baptist Church. He loved serving at church in various roles including Chairman of the Deacon Board, deacon, Training Union Director, RA and youth leader, Sunday school teacher and VBS volunteer. Most recently, Ray loved being a greeter at Riverland Hills. He and his wife also volunteered with MUSC’s Mended Hearts Chapter 189 counseling and encouraging heart patients. Ray loved traveling with family and working in his yard. His latest mission in life was to pass out copies of Oswald Chambers’ devotional book, My Utmost for His Highest.
Mr. Efird is survived by his wife of 66 years, Faith Pooser Efird; daughters, Melanie E. Bennett (Gregory) and Stephanie Quattlebaum (Larry) and grandchildren, Garth Hill, Railey Lady (Ben) and Joseph Howell.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 24, 2023 at Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, West Columbia Chapel. Memorials may be made to Mended Hearts Chapter 189 at MUSC, Riverland Hills Baptist Church in Irmo, SC, Holland Avenue Baptist Church or Trinity Baptist Church in Cayce, SC.
