Pamela attended Timmerman Elementary School and Cardinal Newman High School and graduated from Columbia College, majoring in Elementary Education. Following Pam's Bachelor of Education Degree, she attended the University of South Carolina where she attained a Master's degree in Early Childhood Education. Pamela did her student teaching at Northside Middle School in West Columbia. Her formal art education instruction in kindergarten through 5th grades was 14 years in Richland School District 1 - Hyatt Park Elementary School and 18 years in Lexington School District 1 - Saxe Gotha Elementary School, Red Bank Elementary School and Carolina Springs Elementary School. Pamela, in her 32 years of teaching, touched thousands of children with many of them recognizing her, years after their experience in her classroom.
Family, friends and her career were all Pamela’s passion and delight. She grew up spending summers and vacations with her children and family. Pamela loved the beaches in South Carolina and Florida for years until she became sick in 2015 during many trips with her husband Ben and her children. The honeymoon in Hawaii was a special beginning for Pamela and Ben and the honeymoon and live full of hope, joyfulness and love continued for just over 30 years (March 30th).
Pamela is survived by her husband, Ben Floyd; children, Lynn Springer (husband, David) with grandsons, Landen and Logan, living in Lexington, SC, Dayton Floyd living in Lexington, SC, and stepsons, Austin Floyd (wife Crystal), living in Ballentine, SC and Benjamin Floyd II living in Colorado Springs, CO; belated father, William (Bill) Quincey Elliott and mother, Patricia (Pat) McCormick Elliott living in Irmo, SC and sister, Wanda Beam living in Lexington, SC. She also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends.
Pamela requested a small funeral, which is difficult during the COVID-19 N2 virus days. Even so, the family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her during her last few months. The funeral service will be available via live streaming located on the Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, West Columbia Chapel Facebook page and will remain on the Facebook page for viewing for some time.
