WEST COLUMBIA – Ola Hart Clinton Cox passed into her final healing and homecoming on Sunday, May 10, 2015. Named Hart for her adoptive mother’s maiden name, it was perfectly chosen as that was what she would give to everyone she met. Born March 4, 1948, adopted not just once but thrice. First, by Neil P. and Miriam (Hart) Clinton, whose love poured out on Hart, and all who she loved. Second by the Lord she loved, and loved her first as she joined the Presbytery. Then in marriage to Jimmy W. Cox on February 14, 1970 in whom she found the most love, joy and support she could ever find this side of heaven for 45 years. Along with Jimmy, she is survived by Jimmy W. Cox, Jr. and Patricia Dea Cox Jordan who took Troy Jordan as husband and was blessed with their children, Amber Leigh and Katlyn Ashley Jordan. Her family further included 10 brothers and sisters and their families; Joanne Cox Brooks (Wayne) deceased); Robert Franklin Cox (June); Joyce Edison Cox (Miriam); Daniel Eugene Cox (deceased) (Sharon), Bonnie Frances Cox Rabon (Kenneth) (deceased); Mary Lou Cox Wright (Kent); Joseph Jerry Cox (Ann); Charles Wendell Cox (Barbara); Janice Elizabeth Cox Rodeffer (Larry) and William Clay Cox (deceased). She embodied family as not just who you are born to but whom you chose, and she chose many.
Her love touched so many more through her singing, volunteering, mentoring, teaching and work at State Street Baptist Church and her community. Her delight in cooking and feeding entire armies of youth and children that passed through the church and family home. Her directive finger in music and in life guided many along the right paths toward a brighter future; and her open arms hugged and healed many a tearful eye or broken heart. She will be remembered for her laugh and mostly for her Heart which will now be made complete as Heaven’s doors open for her, and the son received by Heaven whom she never knew, will run past Jesus to greet her and welcome her home.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers that your heart be led to give a memorial in her honor to the building fund, earmarked ‘Fund 70” made to State Street Baptist Church, 1420 State Street, Cayce, SC 29033.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at State Street Baptist Church with interment in Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, West Columbia Chapel.
