Retired Army Sergeant First Class Michael Dennis Moore, 70, of Lexington, South Carolina, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 29, 2020, at Prisma Health Richland Hospital, in Columbia, surrounded by his family.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 6, 2020 at 6:00 PM at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, West Columbia Chapel, 820 W. Dunbar Road, West Columbia, SC 29170. The funeral service will be held Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 3:00 PM at the same location.
Michael was born January 25, 1950, in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada, to Air Force Technical Sergeant William and Elva (Fair) Moore. He graduated from Castle High School in Hawaii in 1968. In September of 1968 he joined the United States Army and fought in the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1969. After serving honorably for 20 years, he retired April 1, 1990, in Fort Benning, Georgia. After retirement, Michael worked for Babcock Center in Columbia, before fully retiring in 2004. During retirement, he enjoyed trips to the mountains and beach, spending time with his grandchildren and working in the yard.
Michael is survived by his son, Retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Christopher (Kimberly) Moore of Newport News, VA; daughter, Lindsay Jackson of Lexington, SC, and long-time companion, Teresa Davis of West Columbia, SC. He was the proud and loving “Pepaw” to five grandchildren, Zachary Moore (16), Jaden Moore (14), Abigail Jackson (10), Nathaniel Jackson (8) and William Jackson (6). He is also survived by his sisters, Pat (Gordon) Kewell, Nancy (Andy) Gilligan, and Linda Barren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Elva, and his brothers, William, John and Dale Moore.
As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the Gary Sinise Foundation in his memory.
