SWANSEA - Maxie Argoe finished his earthly life after an extended illness on Friday, June 15, 2012, surrounded by his family and friends. Born on January 3, 1938, he was the first born of seven children to Estus McKenzie and Ruth Beatrice Medlin Argoe.
Mr. Argoe was loving, strong, gentle, a fighter, giving, hard working and determined. He was a loving family man and a devoted father. He independently raised 5 children. He was a successful owner and operator of several automotive businesses, in which he loved so much, he was at work the day he went into the hospital. His businesses included Argoe’s Garage, Eastman Auto Sales and Hwy. 321 Auto Sales. He was born in Columbia but lived in Swansea the majority of his life. After the death of his father, Maxie became the patriarch of the Argoe family. Faithful to the end, he was our family’s hero.
He fought for his life and for his family for 674 days in Palmetto Richland Hospital from September 10, 2010 until June 15. 2012. The family would like to thank and give their love and appreciation to the staff of Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital for the care that was given to Maxie as they cared for him as one of their own.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at 3:00 pm at St. Paul Pentecostal Holiness Church, 648 St. Matthews Road, Swansea, SC with burial in Antioch Baptist Church, Swansea, SC. The family will receive friends Monday, June 18, 2012, from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, West Columbia Chapel. Surviving are his daughter, Michelle Argoe of West Columbia; sons, Mark McKenzie Argoe of Pelion, Brian W. Argoe of Springdale, James Randolph (Jan) Argoe of Swansea and Chad Christopher (Pamela) Argoe of West Columbia; sisters, Betty Holder of Pelion, Sarah (Gene) Sharpe of Pelion, Linda Mook of West Columbia and Delma Jones of Lexington; brother, Paul Argoe of Pelion; granddaughters, Monica Argoe, Jessica Argoe, Kayce Argoe, Rachel Argoe and Gracie Argoe; grandsons, Ryan Smith, Max Strickland, Benjamin Argoe and Anthony Argoe and the mother of two of his children, Susan Wade. Mr. Argoe was preceded in death by one brother, Johnny Wayne Argoe and his first wife, Cheryl H. Rivers.
