Edward O. (Butch) Smith, Sr. passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 20, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Lexington, SC on June 1st, 1940 and was the son of Harry W. Smith and Mary Lever.
Butch graduated from Lexington High School in 1958. He retired from USPS and the National Guard.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Sandra Steele Smith; siblings, Judy (Jon) Headley; Marion (Gloria) Steele, Rodger (Karen) Steele, Mike (Joan) Steele; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, great-great nieces, and other family and friends.
He was predeceased by his son, Eddie; Harry and Mary, Fritz and Ellen Steele; Gloria Steele, and his great nephew, Brett Tynes.
A visitation for Butch will be held from 1:00 PM to 2:45 PM on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 in the fellowship hall at Faith Lutheran Church, 1717 Platt Springs Rd, West Columbia, SC 29169. The funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM and a burial will take place at Southland Memorial Gardens, 700 West Dunbar Road, West Columbia, SC 29170.
Please help the family celebrate Butch’s life by wearing bright and happy, casual clothing. He was ready to go to his heavenly home, and this is what he wanted.
In lieu of flowers, at the family’s request, please make memorials to Faith Lutheran Church at 1717 Platt Springs Road, West Columbia, SC 29169.
