Danny Ledell Medders, “PeePaw”, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 21, 2025 in Charleston, SC. Born on November 8, 1947 in Mississippi to Clyde Russell and Edna Dean Medders, Danny lived a life defined by courage, love, and unwavering dedication to his country and family.
A proud and decorated veteran who served our country from 1967 until 1992. Danny served in the Vietnam War not once, but twice—first with the United States Marine Corps and later with the U.S. Army. His bravery, commitment, and sacrifices for his nation were recognized with numerous honors, a testament to his selfless service.
Danny was known for his infectious humor and happy spirit, bringing joy to those around him. He was a proud supporter of President Donald Trump, an avid fan of the USC Gamecocks, a devoted NASCAR enthusiast, and a passionate fisherman. He found happiness in the simple joys of life, sharing laughter, good stories, and warm company with his loved ones.
He leaves behind his devoted wife of 56 years, Brenda Jean Medders of Summerville, SC, his son Gregory L. Medders (Dawn) of Mount Pleasant, SC, and his daughter Misti Kinard (Franklin) of Charleston, SC. He was a cherished grandfather to six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two of his brothers, Phillip Medders (Betty Joe) and Thomas Medders, both of Eupora, Mississippi.
Danny was preceded in death by his parents, Edna and Clyde Medders, his sisters Sue Queen of York, SC, and Gina Medders of Eupora, Mississippi, as well as his brother Bobby Medders of Eupora, Mississippi.
In addition to his immediate family, Danny was loved by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, all of whom he treated as family. His presence, laughter, and larger-than-life personality will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of those who knew him.
A service to honor Danny's life will be held at Caughman Harman Funeral Home in West Columbia, SC, on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at 2:00 pm with visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Internment will be immediately following at Southland Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude, a charity that Danny contributed to for many years.
