Cheryl “Sherry” Martin of West Columbia went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 26, 2024. She was born in Franklin, Indiana and was the daughter of Lawrence and Kay Burton. A graduate of Columbia College, Sherry had a long career with the State of South Carolina, working as an accountant and finance director.
Sherry loved being with her family and friends the most. You could find her on the boat with a fishing rod in her hand, in the mountains admiring the wildlife at Cades Cove, at one of her grandson’s baseball/football games, or at her house hosting pool parties. She loved to travel, was one of the most competitive people you ever met and had a smile that was contagious. When leaving, she would give you a big hug and kiss, saying “I love you the most!”
Sherry is survived by her daughter, Chrissy (Brad) Chavis; grandchildren who knew her as “Nana,” Kyle and Cooper Chavis; brother, Michael Burton (Henrietta Duncan); nephews, Stephen Burton (Matthew May), Larry (Danielle) Burton; nieces, Kelly (Mike) Webb, Erica (Gabe) Cagle, Tara (Robert) Spelts; and great nieces and nephews, Bentley Webb, Connor May, Maria Cagle, Zack Burton, Gentry Spelts, and Berkley Spelts, along with extended family and close friends.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Bobby Martin; parents, Lawrence Burton and Kay (Jack) Morrow; and brothers, Terry and Larry Burton.
The family will receive friends Friday, November 1, 2024, from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at Caughman Harman Funeral Home – West Columbia Chapel, 820 West Dunbar Road, West Columbia, SC 29170, followed by a celebration of life at 11:00 AM.
