Teresa Lorraine Douthit was born November 7, 1954 to Glenda Fringer Douthit and Floyd Curtis Douthit in Superior, NE. She was their second child. The first, David Curtis, died in infancy. Teresa was welcomed into the world by her three half- brothers, Douglas Eugene Woodward, Melvin Dean Woodward and Lyndall Allen Woodward.
When she was almost three the family moved from Nebraska to Visalia, California where all the children attended school. Teresa graduated in 1972 and later continued her education through LaVerne University. She returned from Southern California in 1988 and has resided with her mother since then.
In the late 80’s and 90’s she was active in the Tulare County AIDS Consortium and two support groups. She took training for the “Positively Speaking” program and often spoke to high school students and other groups to educate them about the HIV virus. At the time there was much panic but little knowledge about this disease. Yet to this day there is a great deal of ignorance in the general population. In recent years she has suffered from kidney failure and been unable to be active in education programs.
Teresa is survived by her mother, Glenda Douthit of Visalia; two half-brothers, Douglas Woodward and wife Rita of Germantown, TN and Lyndall Woodward and wife Polly of Shell Beach, CA; sister-in-law Janet Woodward of Visalia, CA; 12 nieces and nephews and 14 great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Floyd Curtis Douthit and her half-brother Melvin Woodward.
