Susan Evelyn Savage, 80, of Visalia, California passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2022 in Visalia, California. Sue was born in Tulare, California on May 17, 1942 to Arthur George and Evelyn Wilhelmina Mackay. Sue was raised and educated in Visalia and graduated from Mt. Whitney High School. She continued her education at the College of the Sequoias in Visalia and graduated from nursing school as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) in 1977. She met Stoney Harrison Savage in Mineral King, California, and they married in Visalia on June 20, 1964, at the First Presbyterian Church. They then lived for a year in Santa Monica, California, where Stoney worked. Sue and Stoney then moved to Visalia to make their home and raise their children, Stoney Jr. and Evonne. Sue worked at Kaweah Delta District Hospital for many years before transferring to Corcoran State Prison to work as an MTA (nurse), prior to retiring. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Visalia, the Embroiderer’s Guild, and the Orange Blossom Quilters. Sue always had a life-long love of sewing and even made her own wedding dress. She was an embroiderer doing needlepoint and cross-stitch. She also took up quilting with her friend, Jeanie Sisco, both of whom loved going on quilting retreats and shop hops together. In addition to sewing, Sue loved traveling to the desert, coast, and mountains with her family. Later in life, Sue and Stoney would go on long cruises and adventures. During their travels, Sue would send many postcards back home and had many things to tell upon her return. She also loved collecting beautiful and interesting things from wherever she went. Of all the places Sue traveled, her favorite place to go was to the family cabin in Mineral King, located in Sequoia National Park, California. She spent a lot of time at the cabin with family and friends and always wanted people to come up. Both Sue and Stoney always had an open door policy for people to come and stay. As usual, Sue always brought her sewing material and books to read, to the cabin. Sue was a warm, kind, caring, and loving mother, who never asked for much, but would do anything and everything she could for her family and friends. Moreover, there was never a time that she would not immediately accept any offer to spend time with her grandkids. Sue loved her entire family more than life itself and enjoyed all of their visits. Sue was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and eldest sister, Judy Halstead of San Jose, California. Sue is survived by her son, Stoney Savage Jr. and his wife, Shirley of Visalia and daughter, Evonne Goodwin of Visalia; grandson, Stoney J. Savage of Visalia; granddaughter, Sienna Savage of Visalia; step grandchildren, Christine Martinez of Chula Vista, Eric Crisanto of Visalia, and Lynita Crisanto of Visalia; seven great grandchildren; sister, Marian Bennett and husband, Mel Bennett of Manderson, Wyoming; many nieces and nephews; numerous great-nieces and -nephews; and extended family. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 from 3 – 7 p.m. at Miller Memorial Chapel, 1120 W. Goshen Avenue in Visalia. A graveside funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at 10 a.m. at the Three Rivers Public Cemetery located at 41841 Blossom Dr., Three Rivers, California.
