Susan grew up in Ogden, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. As a child, she enjoyed dance and became an accomplished ballerina. Upon graduation from Ogden High School in 1944, she moved to Southern California where she attended UCLA for one year before transferring to cross-town rival USC. She graduated from USC in 1948 with a bachelor's degree in English Literature.
While at USC, Susan was a member of the Chi Omega sorority and established a successful modeling career. During her time at USC she met Walter K. McCormick, a member of the varsity football team and after graduatin5they married in May 1949.
Susan and Walter had a son, Michael in 1950 and a daughter, Lauren in 1952. After Walter graduated from law school in 1952 the family moved to Visalia. Three years later daughter Kimberly was born.
Thereafter, Susan became active in a variety of social clubs and organizations including Cotillion, Panhellenic, and AAUW. During her lifetime, Susan enjoyed a variety of activities including dancing, bowling, horseback riding, golf, bridge, knitting and even learned to play the ukulele. She loved to travel, and was an avid fan of USC football and the San Francisco 49ers. Her greatest joy was sharing in the raising of her grandchildren and being able to spend time with her great grandsons.
In the mid-1960's Susan began working for the Tulare County Probation Department. She had a deep affinity for working with troubled youth and held several positions within the juvenile division. In 1978 Susan retired from her beloved job due to health reasons.
Upon retirement she became extensively involved in the Tulare County Victim Witness Program as a volunteer and was instrumental in bringing the CASA program to Tulare County. Susan received numerous commendations for her volunteering and CASA service. She was recognized by then Governor Deukmejian for her CASA work. As an extension of her career and volunteer service, Susan had a compassionate ear for listening, and a comforting shoulder to lean on for family and friends.
Susan was pre-deceased by her parents, her three siblings; Scott, Ann, Lawrence (Ray) and her husband, Walter.
Susan is survived by her children; Mike McCormick, Lauren Evans, and Kim Dalton; grandchildren; Emily Evans Comara and Michael Evans; and great-grandsons, Logan and Owen Comara.
