Richard Taylor passed away at home on June 30th surrounded by his wife and family. Richard was born and raised in Colorado where after serving in the Navy during the Korean conflict, he graduated from Colorado State University with a degree in Forest Management. He then worked with the Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management in a variety of forest/recreational planning & management positions for 30 years before retiring in 1982. His work took him to many areas both in the field and to new work locations and he worked throughout the mountain west as well as Michigan, Washington DC and Sacramento, CA.
He was a lover of the outdoors and recreational activities in general. Richard was a very accomplished biker and had done many long road tours. His true love was skiing and he loved to hit the slopes with family and friends. Richard skied a great many areas throughout the US, Canada and Europe. During his Forest Service career, he had been part of the team that helped layout the Jackson Hole, Wyoming ski area, an activity of which he was exceptionally proud.
Richard was a great builder & craftsman and built or improved pretty much every home he had ever lived in. He enjoyed wood working and wood carving and delighted in making things for his family
Richard and his wife Hide moved to Visalia 17 years ago after living in Southern California and Mariposa. He loved the Visalia area as well as friends & neighbors, the people he met and the community.
Richard is survived by his wife Hide Taylor, his three children, Robb Taylor, Renita Brewer (Ronnie) and Rick Taylor (Michelle Barnes) as well as seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He is also survived by his two stepsons Tet Greene (Sachiko) and Iwao Greene (Tina).
Richard was preceded in death by one granddaughter.
A Visitation will be held at Miller Memorial Chapel 1120 West Goshen Avenue, Visalia, CA 93291 on Saturday, July 17, 2021 from 10am to 11am, Celebration of Life starts at 11am.
Richard lived a long and healthy life and was able to live his life on his terms. He will be missed greatly.
