Nancy was born in Columbia, Missouri, on November 18,1938, to Bob and Marie Hughes. At a very young age, she and her family migrated across the United States and settled in a small campground in Calipatcheria, California. Nancy and her three sisters worked in the fields picking peas and tomatoes to provide supplemental income for the family. In 1947, the family moved and settled in Goshen, California, where Nancy and her sisters were raised. In their adolescent years, the sisters regularly attended the Goshen Happy Go Lucky dance hall and, it was there, that Nancy met her beloved husband, Lee McClatchey, at the age of 17. Lee and Nancy married on August 2, 1957, and thereafter had two beautiful daughters, Cindy Carrell and Lindi McClatchey.
In 1975, Nancy and her immediate family moved to Visalia, California. Nancy took pride in raising her daughters and showing an unconditional love for Lee. She and her family enjoyed yearly vacations, camping and visiting friends. Nancy and Lee also took pleasure in listening and dancing to country music; however, Nancy’s absolute favorite pastime was shopping. Nancy was a glamorous and generous individual who was well known in the retail community. She was known for her love of high heels, jewelry and fashionable attire and refused to be seen without a full face of make-up and stylish outfit.
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband and sister, Joanne Bly. She is survived by her two daughters, Cindy (Russell) Carrell and Lindi McClatchey; her two sisters Becky Gilstrap and Maxine (Orval) Ivins; her four grandchildren, Chelsea (Mike) McCarthy, Tina (Joe) Rice, Adam (Maria) Marquez, and Jordan McClatchey; and seven great grandchildren.
The viewing and visitation service will be held at Miller’s Chapel in Visalia on Monday, February 20, 2023, from 4 pm to 7 pm. A funeral service will be held at Miller’s Chapel on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at 9 am and will be followed by a graveside burial at the Visalia Cemetery. Directly following the services, everyone is invited to attend a luncheon celebration to honor Nancy at The Woodlands Visalia, 4211 West Goshen Avenue.
