Mary M. Hutson

Mary was born to Thomas Quitman and Nona Pearl Hixson on January23, 1928 in Clark Township, Arkansas in the Ozark Mountains. She spent her last days as a resident of Park Visalia Assisted Living in Visalia, CA.

Her family were farmers in Clark County, Arkansas, and later in nearby Paris, Arkansas. She and her four siblings, Rosalie, William (Buddy), Marie, and Billy were raised by her mother, Nona, after the death of her father. She learned to work in the fields to help support her family.

Mary married the love of her life Leonard Fay Hutson March 13, 1945 while he was still in the army. They were married for 69 year until his death in 2014. Though Leonard and Mary had known each other for most of their lives, they started dating after Leonard bought her pie at a church pie social so he could sit with her. Mary and Leonard have had five children, Leonard Hutson of Eugene, OR (wife Toni), Belva Jean Titsworth (Deceased), Patricia Anne Hutson (deceased), George Hutson of Visalia, CA (wife Peg), and Phyllis Anderson (husband David) of Bisbee, AZ., and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mary was a devout Christian and had a strong faith in Jesus Christ. She attended First Assembly of God Church in Visalia for 56 years until 2012, until she and Leonard could no long make it to services due to their age. For the last four years she was a faithful member of the Family of Faith Fellowship church which meets at Park Visalia Assisted Living, where her son George is Pastor.

Mary was a nurse’s aide for 21 years at Visalia Convalescent Hospital until she resigned to take full time care of a dear friend in her friend’s home. Mary then brought her mother Nona Ballard into her home and cared for her for the last five years of her mother’s life.

A Memorial Service will be held at Miller Memorial Chapel 1120 W. Goshen Ave,, Visalia, CA 93291 on Friday March 2, 2018 at11:00 AM, followed by a graveside service at Visalia Cemetery.
