John Fierro Gomez, 83, was born in Lake Arthur, New Mexico on May 4, 1934. He passed away peacefully on April 6, 2018 in Visalia, surrounded by friends and family. He was the son of Lasara Gonzales and Gabriel “Shorty“ Gomez.
John worked his early years at LE Cooke Nursery in Visalia and Armstrong Tire Company in Hanford. But his passion came when he joined Westinghouse Electric in Visalia, where he had many successful years as a Union Representative for Local 2205. He was very dedicated to his position and highly respected by all his peers and co-workers.
He enjoyed watching and playing all sports, but loved basketball and bowling and an occasional game of blackjack, which he was great at all three. John also enjoyed cooking and making salsa for his family.
John is survived by two younger brothers, Joe Carrasco (Eva) of Whittier, CA and Ruben Gonzales (Rosemary) of Visalia, CA. He is also survived by his four children Shirley Brueggemann (Jeff), Diane Stie, John Eric Gomez (Lucy) and Michelle Gomez, all of Visalia, CA. John has 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren and many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
He was very proud of his family and took extreme pride in his grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Thursday April 19, 2018 at Millers Chapel 1120 W. Goshen Ave., Visalia, from 4p.m. – 8 p.m. with Rosary at 6p.m. Mass will be held on Friday, April 20, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Visalia at 10:00 a.m. followed by a reception at the Serra Center.
