Passed away June 12, 2012 in Visalia, CA at the age of 87, Jim was born in Artesia, N.M. to Nicholas and Antonia Gonzales.
Jim was a member of the Army infantry from 1943-1946 as a Staff Sergeant and received the WWII Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with a Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Sharp Shooter M1 Rifle and a Purple Heart.
After his release he got into the construction business where he worked for 25yrs.
Jim was a member of the American Legion Post-785; he loved working on his classic cars and die hard Raiders and Dodgers fan.
He will be remembered as a loving, out going, charismatic, strong family man. He was a part of the “Greatest Generation” and put his life on the line in the Philippine islands during WWII.
Jim is survived by his sons, Henry R. Gonzales of Squaw Valley, CA, Javier (Harvey) Gonzales, Richard J. Gonzales of Visalia, CA; daughters, Pearl E. Gonzales, Arlene Gonzales of Visalia, CA; Brother Gilbert Pineda of Fresno, CA; sister Margaret Brito of Visalia, CA, along with 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by, his wife Victoria Dorado Gonzales, brother, Lyle Pineda.
Visitation will be held Tuesday June 19, 2012 from 5:00-7:00pm at Miller Memorial Chapel. Holy Rosary will start at 7:00pm
Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday June 20, 2012 at 10:00am at Holy Family Church.
