Irene C. Hernandez of Woodlake passed away on February 22, 2011, in Woodlake at the age of 80. Irene was born on October 25, 1930 in Alamo, Texas to Santos and Eligia Contreras. Irene was known to many of her friends as “Nena”. Irene retired from Early California Foods in Visalia, after working as an olive grader for 20 years. Irene married Juan Clemente Hernandez on April 19, 1955 and was married for 55 years. Irene was a simple, humble and sweet loving soul. She will be best remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her greatest joy was her family and friends. When you entered Irene’s home you always left on a full stomach. Many enjoyed her home cooked hot meals and she took pleasure in feeding anyone who came into her home. In the spring you could always find her watering her many plants around the house. Irene will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
Irene is survived by her husband Juan C. Hernandez, five daughters:
Aurora Medina, Maria Ponce (Dennis), and Dalia Diaz all of Woodlake, Brenda Correa (Moises), and Juanita Eslinger of Visalia. Three sons Jesse Hernandez (Elsa) of Fresno, Clemente Hernandez (Arlene) of Visalia and Johnny Hernandez of Exeter, and grandchildren: Alex & Vincent Treas, Richard Diaz, Myra Ponce, Danielle Correa, David & Malina Torrez, Anthony, Elijah, Claudia and Jesse Jr. Hernandez.
Irene is survived by one sister Olivia Martinez and one brother Jose Contreras both of Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents Santos & Eligia Contreras, five brothers Luis, Francisco, Alfonso, Manuel and Guillermo Contreras all of Texas, son-in-law Richard M. Diaz and daughter-in-law Lisa Hernandez.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Kaweah Delta Hospital, 3 South; Comfort Care Unit and Hospice Care for the care that you gave our mother in her last days.
