Eustaquia Felix Castro was born on September 28, 1928 in East Los Angeles to Rosalio and Rosaura Felix. She left this Earth on Sunday, June 9 2013 in Visalia, California. Esty was the seventh child of fourteen children and loved her brothers and sisters dearly.
She was very proud to have grown up in East Los Angeles where she attended and graduated from Garfield High School. One of her favorite things to do in Los Angeles was go to the beach and frolic with her friends and family. She was even known for constantly teasing the lifeguards. She also loved reading and writing and was quite the gifted author.
As a young woman she met Tino Castro of Puerto Rico and they began their life together and were married for 62 years. They raised a family of five children: two sons, David and Martin Castro and three daughters, Rita Villarreal, Sandra Ramos, and her baby Julie Castro. She was blessed to have fourteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren whom she loved unconditionally.
She lived for her family and everyone knew it. Everyone also knew she was the best cook. Whether it be her famous tamales at Christmas or her after mass menudo, Esty could always be found in the kitchen cooking up a storm.
There were a lot of things she took great pride in: her faith, her children, and her family's military service to our country.
Esty leaves behind a very devoted family, her sons David Castro and wife, Trini of Tulare and Martin Castro and wife Chris of Visalia; her daughters, Rita Villarreal and husband, Paul of Goshen, Sandra Ramos and husband, Moises Jr. of Stockton and Julie Castro of Visalia; her brother Porfilio Felix of Los Angeles; and her sisters Jenny Valdez and Frances Collado both of Los Angeles.
The Castro family would also like to extend our sincerest thanks to the entire staff at Westgate for their excellent care of both of our parents.
May we always remember the legacy Esty leaves behind, one of strength and dignity.
