William “Bill” Page, born July 31, 1924, passed peacefully March 26, 2011 at his home, with his loving family. Bill was born in Loris, South Carolina, and was retired from the U.S. Navy and Virginia Beach School Board. He was honored to serve during World War II, the Korean and Vietnam Wars. During WWII, he was involved in battles at Midway and the Coral Sea. After retiring from the U.S. Navy, he began a career with the Va. Beach School Board, working as a Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Specialist. Throughout these careers, he was a Master Barber, working at Oceana Naval Air Station, and informally known as the “Pungo Barber” for many years because of his shop in Creeds, Pungo and Pleasant Ridge. After his final retirement, from the school board and Pungo Barbershop, he was active in the community with Meals On Wheels, cutting hair for his friends and those in need, and working in his garden of over forty years.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 65 years, Juanita Hardee Page; his daughter Rebecca Ann Brady; son, Spurgeon Dean Page and wife Kate; and son Willard Milton Page and wife Kathy; six grandchildren, Patrick Brady, Cassandra Biggers, Bridget Page, Lauren Duffy, Billy Page and Kelsey Page; and four great grandchildren, Belyal, Taran, Autumn, Liam. Bill also leaves behind two brothers, Sidney Page and wife Evelyn of Aynor, SC and Daniel Page and wife Louise of Galavants Ferry, SC.. He was predeceased by his son Glenn Page and granddaughter Abigail Brady; sisters, Ruth Hodges and Elnita Hopkins, and brother Alan Page. He also leaves behind many loved family members in North and South Carolina, who were always special to “Uncle Bill”.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the Hospice team for their loving care these past seven months. God Bless you for all you do. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sentara Hospice, the John Stone Bible Class of London Bridge Baptist Church or Outreach for Christ of Virginia Beach.
