Mr. Mason was born in Fort Meade, Maryland and was preceded in death by his parents William and Wilma Mason and his sister Shirley Parker Porter.
Survivors include his loving wife Joan E Mason, children, Brian M Mason(Amy) and Abigail R Frie (Clayton Barnes), and grandson, Noah A Frie. He is also survived by cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family.
Mr. Mason served in the U.S. Army for twenty-seven years and retired as a SFC. He would go on to retire as a Store Manager with Goodyear Tire and Rubber.
Bill was a born again Christian and a member of Christian Embassy International Church in Chesapeake. He deeply loved the Lord and served Him for many years in several churches.
He found great joy in worship and in fellowship with other believers. His family rejoices in knowing that he is now in the very presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Bill (known as Billy by most of his family) was an avid photographer in his 20's and 30's and had his darkroom in his home. Like many other photographers, he preferred not to be photographed himself.
Bill loved baseball, and followed the New York Yankees all of his life. One of Bill's other great loves was his dogs. It made him very unhappy when he no longer had one (or more) to love.
He also loved to work outside in his garden. Until the last few years, he spent many hours tending his crops.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, September 20, 2:00 p.m. at Christian Embassy International Church, 1208 N. Centerville Turnpike, Chesapeake, VA 23320.
A reception will follow at the church.
Graveside services with military honors will be private at Rosewood Memorial Park.
