Obituary of William Truman Hamilton
William Truman Hamilton, 90 passed away on 23 August 2023. Truman or “Hambone” as he was known to his many friends was born 27 September 1932 in Mannington, West Virginia. Truman met Sandy, the love of his life, on a blind date and he knew immediately she was the one. Truman and Sandy were happily married for 65 years. They shared many adventures together traveling and seeing as much of the world as they could. They created a loving home in Virginia Beach where they raised two wonderful children. Truman served in the United States Navy for 22 years as a Machinist Mate aboard 7 war ships. Following his retirement, he continued his service as a Quality Assurance Inspector for NORSHIPCO and retired again after 20 years. He then went back to work for Enterprise where he loved meeting new clients and telling stories. He was a hard worker and an inspiration to all who worked with him. He always set the example with his dedication and pride in service. The culmination of his guidance is in his granddaughter Bella who now serves as a Naval Officer. Truman had many friends who all looked forward to his company. He always had a smile, a story and root beer candy for everyone he met. He was down to earth and a man whose character was defined by his integrity and moral conduct. He saw many changes in the world during his long life, he always remained optimistic and a true gentleman. He was characterized by his charitable heart and a willingness to help. Truman was a Mason and served as Worshipful Master of Elizabeth Lodge. He was also a Shriner and a member of the Hillbilly Unit of Khedive Shrine. Sandy and Truman were active members of Haygood United Methodist Church. Truman’s pastimes were collecting coins, building puzzles, and playing card and board games, but mostly enjoyed time spent with his family. Truman is survived by his daughter Candy Bartha, son Bill Hamilton, Granddaughter Bella Bartha, daughter-in-law Patricia Hamilton and son-in-law Mike Bartha. He will be missed by all who knew him, but he will always be remembered fondly and with a smile.
