He leaves behind a daughter, Becky Anthony and her husband Randy, another daughter Yvonne London, four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers, Kenneth, Thomas and Brian and his sister Alice. He was predeceased by his brother Joel David.
Born and raised in North Charleroi, Pennsylvania, the son of Henry and Helen Duvall Bruce, Bill joined the Navy after graduating Charleroi High School. After discharge from the Navy, he continued service to the government for 30 years as an Electronics Technician. Bill’s career landed him in Virginia Beach, Virginia where he was able to enjoy the beach for almost 50 years.
After retiring, Bill became active in the Robert A. Owens Association reconnecting with his past shipmates. He also enjoyed keeping up with friends, family, reading his hometown Pennsylvania newspaper and following his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers. Bill could also be seen walking to the library to fuel his favorite pastime reading or gardening in his yard.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 28th at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home in Virginia Beach. Relatives and friends are welcome at the service and the reception following. Bill will be cremated and buried at sea by the U.S. Navy.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society.
