

Norfolk - Virginia (Brown) Carrico, 88, passed away peacefully September 27, 2013. Ginny (Virginia) was the daughter of Francis and Margaret Brown. Born in Syracuse, NY on December 27, 1924. She graduated from St. Patrick's High School. She received a degree from the School of Nursing Syracuse General Hospital. After graduation, Virginia joined the U.S. Navy achieving grade Lieutenant (jg). She eventually settled in Norfolk, VA and raised her family. While raising her children, she returned to work first at DePaul Hospital and then Norfolk Public Health Dept where she was an elementary school and home care nurse. Virginia retired from the Norfolk Public Health Department. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters Association of VA.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Susan Moore. She is survived by her daughters, Cyndie Doherty, Rowena Carrico and Martha Phelps (Willard); and sons, Peter and Joseph. 'Mema', as she was loving called, is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren along with her sister, Sr. Anne Brown, C.S.J. and several nieces and nephews
A viewing and family gathering will be held Thursday October 3 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home, Witchduck Road. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, October 4 with burial immediately following at Rosewood Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Children's Hospital of the Kings Daughters, Norfolk VA.
