Virgie Johns

Mrs. Johns was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and six sisters. She was the youngest of eleven children.

Mrs. Johns was born in Ahoskie, NC. She graduated in 1945 from Suffolk High School and was employed with Western Union until starting her family. She was promoted and relocated to California to work as a trainer for the company. She was a member of the Unity Church of Tidewater.

Virgie always felt her greatest achievement was her children and grandchildren, and they will forever be grateful to her for leading their family spiritually living the example of love, kindness and forgiveness.

Survivors include her husband of sixty years, Andrew Johns, Sr. of Virginia Beach, VA; two sons A. Ernest Johns and wife Tanya Kamens of NY, NY; Robert H. Johns and wife Marilyn Goldberg Johns of Virginia Beach, VA; two daughters Donna Johns Dunetz and husband Martin Dunetz of Mahwah, NJ; Susan Johns and husband John Mathieu of Tolland, CT; five grandchildren David, Julie, Shelby, Sean and Ginger and one great grandchild Gabriel; and sister Mildred Parker Hoggard Beaman of Suffolk, VA.

A celebration of Mrs. John’s life will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2011, 2:00 p.m. at Unity Church of Tidewater, 5580 Shell Road in Virginia Beach.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Unity Church of Tidewater in Virgie’s name.
