Theresa Margaret Johnson went to be with the Lord on July 21, 2011.
Theresa, 86, also known as Terry, was born and raised in Nova Scotia, Canada. She was born into a large family, and enjoyed the love of many brothers and sisters. Theresa spoke often of her childhood days there and told many interesting and amusing stories to the delight of those who listened.
She was a devoted member of the Saint Nicholas Catholic Church in Virginia Beach. Those who knew Theresa knew of her strong faith and trust in God and the love she had for her church family. She enjoyed many hobbies during her life. These include cooking, flower arranging, assisting with catering of special events, and spending time with her friends and family.
Theresa was the wife of the late Noel Vincent Johnson who was a Master Chief Petty Officer in the US Navy who served in WWII and Korea. During her marriage to Noel, they lived in California and a short while in Cuba before finally settling in Virginia Beach.
Left to cherish her memory are: her sons, Donald Joseph Mccurdy and wife Beverly of Staunton, Neil Anthony Johnson and wife Mary of Chesapeake, Paul Vincent Johnson and wife Terry of Jacksonville, Eric Nicholas Johnson of Chesapeake; one daughter Noelle Theresa Butler of Virginia Beach; five grandchildren, Theresa Garvis, Adam Johnson, Nicole Johnson, Amber Johnson, Jill Butler, two great grandsons, and her extended family, Joan Sadowski, Rosemary Cooke, Jan Viola, and Tom Daughtrey.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N. Witchduck Road in Virginia Beach. A celebration of Mrs. Johnson’s life will be held at Saint Nicholas Catholic Church in Virginia Beach at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, 2011 followed by a brief graveside service in Woodlawn Cemetery. Following the burial, a reception will be held at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Saint Nicholas Catholic Church’s Building and Maintenance Fund at 712 Little Neck Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23452.
