Theola Jean Powers

Theola Jean Powers CHESAPEAKE - Theola Jean Powers passed away Aug. 16, 2010. She was born on Feb. 15, 1930 in Dodge City, Kan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell Eugene Powers and son Joel B. Powers. Jean's wonderful gift of singing was shared throughout her life. She worshipped God by leading several choirs after winning many vocal competitions in her youth. After her retirement as a nurse, she spent her days riding her bike, enjoying the beach and leading bible studies. She is survived by her son, Michael Eugene Powers and wife Terri and daughter Ashley of Savannah, Ga.; daughter, Rebecca Powers Strawhand and husband Milton E. of Chesapeake; daughter-in-law, Susie L. Powers; sister, Alberta Peters; brothers, Marvin D. Nelson and Donald Nelson; grandchildren, Michael E. Powers II, Nathan S. Strawhand, Christopher M. Powers, Landon E. Strawhand and Jeremy D. Powers and seven great- grandchildren. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N. Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23462. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, at the funeral home.
