Sylvia Elaine Canada

Virginia Beach - Sylvia E. Canada, 69, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2016. She was born April 6, 1947 in Bluefield, West Virginia to Haskel and Leola Sands. She graduated from Bluefield High School in Bluefield, WV in 1964 and entered DePaul School of Nursing in Norfolk, VA that fall. Upon graduating she went to work at the DePaul Hospital where she held several positions before she retired as night nursing supervisor after 42 years of service. Sylvia is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, James N. Canada, Sr., son, James N. Canada, Jr. and wife Cathy, daughter Ruth “Missy” M. Jordan and husband Guy, along with 5 siblings; Tom and wife Gail, Jim Sands, Rosa Durkee, Ken and wife Lisa, Mike Sands and wife Debbie; 4 grandchildren, Allison, Amber, Dylan and Samantha Meravy and husband Billy, and son and great grandchild Kallan. “Mimi” as she was known to all was loved by everyone, including a combination of many grand and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. A funeral service will be held at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N.Witchduck Rd, Va Beach, VA at 2 pm on Thursday, June 9. A visitation will be held 6-8 pm Wednesday, June 8 at the Funeral Home. Internment will immediately follow the funeral service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to your favorite Cancer Research Charity.
