Sherry Murphy Wood

Sherry Murphy Wood, 82, died Aug. 28, 2018. The lifelong educator spent more than 30 years as a teacher at Indian River High School in Chesapeake. She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Wood, a former Dean of Students at Virginia Wesleyan College, and her youngest son, John Wood.

She is survived by her oldest son, Skip Wood, his wife, Bonnie Widener Wood, and her two grandchildren: Campbell and Branson. She also is survived by numerous relatives across the country, especially in her home state of Mississippi.

A brief memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Smith & Williams Funeral Home Kempsville Chapel, 4889 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Massanetta Springs church camp & conference center, 712 Massanetta Springs Road, Harrisonburg, Va., 22801. A burial service will be held in Carthage, Miss., at a later date.
