Robert, known affectionately as Bob or Bobby by friends and family, was born in Suffolk, Virginia and raised in Norfolk, Virginia. He served in the Navy, and met his wife, Martha while in port in Acapulco in the fall of 1964. He worked for many years as a driver salesman for the Mary Jane and Flowers bakeries. He was a devoted family man, a reliable friend, and a faithful fan of the Washington Redskins.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Martha P. Howell; sister, Judy; sons, Robert Howell, Jr. (Tama) and Joseph Howell (Adam); and daughter Veronica Samonte (Ricarde); grandchildren, Alex, Max, Esabel, Julian, Aidan, and Declan; and many other extended relatives in the United States and Mexico.
A Memorial Service will be at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 712 Little Neck Rd in Virginia Beach, VA on Friday, August 9, 2024 at 11:00 am.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 8th from 5:00pm to 7:00 pm at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, 4889 Princess Anne Road in Virginia Beach.
