Robert Earl Harkey, 82, passed away peacefully January 16, 2012 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Harkey was born September 22, 1929 to the late Stacy and Dorothy Harkey in Washington, D.C. He served our country proudly for over 22 years in the U.S. Marine Corp, retiring as a Master Sergeant. Robert was a strong-willed, devoted family man. His family and the Redskins meant everything to him. He will always be remembered as a Minister of his faith, a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be deeply missed.
Left to cherish his memory is: a son, Brandon Harkey and wife Sarah; four daughters: Sharon Heisey, Sandra Arnall, Janet Harkey, and Traci Johnson; two brothers, Leroy Harkey and wife Betty, Donald Denese and wife Sonia; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Jean Harkey.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm, Thursday, January 19, 2012 at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. A celebration of life will be held at 5:00 pm, Friday, January 20, 2012 at the funeral home. Burial will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
