Larry Thompson, 74, of Norfolk, Virginia, passed on to glory on August 28, 2024.
He was born May 2, 1950, in Staten Island, New York, to his parents, Harry M. Thompson and
Francis Lee O’Brien, who preceded them in death. Larry is succeeded in life by his wife Denise;
two sons and their wives, Jonathan (Jessica) and Zachary (Sarah); his brother Harry; four
grandchildren: Hailey, Kaci, Liam, and Erin; and several nieces and nephews.
Larry attended school at Norview High School. After several landscaping classes at Tidewater
Community College, Larry started his own landscaping business. He later entered the utilities
industry, ending his career at Team Fishel in Manassas, Virginia.
An avid golfer throughout his youth, Larry played golf while at Norview. In 1967, he received
Norfolk Sports Club’s “Outstanding Scholastic Golfer” award. His love of sports lasted his entire
life, attending countless golf events and Nationals and Yankees games with his sons. Larry also
loved to travel with his wife and family, taking several trips to Cuba with Denise, as well as
numerous Boy Scout trips with Jonathan and Zachary. He was an active member of Eagle
Heights Presbyterian Church in Winchester, Virginia, where he served his church and community
as a Deacon.
Larry will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and follower of
Christ. He will be sorely missed, but his family and friends look forward to the day we are united
in everlasting life.
The funeral service will be at 2:00 pm on Friday, September 6, 2024 at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park.
